Sermon title – “Weeping Over Jerusalem”
Scripture: Luke 19: 32-42

When Jesus entered Jerusalem, a crowd of people followed him and celebrated his entry into the holy city. As they cheered Jesus along and began to hail him as the Son of David and Messiah, some Pharisees demanded that Jesus rebuke his disciples. Jesus’ response was that even if his disciples and the world refuse to praise him, the rocks will praise him. And Jesus, seeing the city, wept over it. The weeping of Jesus over Jerusalem offers much food for thought, contemplation, and resolution. Why did Jesus weep? Might Jesus weep over the state of our world today? As we move from Palm Sunday toward the cross on Good Friday, let us come together to ponder and wonder about the meaning of Jesus’ cry over Jerusalem.
