Volunteer Opportunities in and through Berkley First

Missions and Prayer

Right from the start as a new church campus, we have sought to take the love of Christ beyond the four walls of this building.

  • Local Missions – We take teams down to serve regularly at the Redford Brightmoor Initiative in one of Detroit’s most economically disenfranchised neighborhoods. People of all ages are welcome to come be a part of the action, and new mission opportunities are always on the horizon. For more information on serving with our local missions, contact Patty at missions@berkleyfirst.org
  • Global Missions – We have an international sister church relationship with the Methodist Church in Manzanillo, Cuba. If you would like more information about that partnership, or are interested in traveling to Cuba
with the our mission team, contact Pastor Zack at zdunlap@berkleyfirst.org
  • Prayer Team – We gather once a month in a time for prayer after the worship service and send weekly prayer updates. If you would like to be a part of this ministry of prayer, contact Barb at prayer@berkleyfirst.org
Serving on Sundays

It takes a lot of passionate volunteers to do what we do every Sunday morning at Berkley First. Here are some ways for you to plug in and serve.

  • Children’s Ministry –Each week, we offer excellent age-appropriate programming for nursery, lower elementary, and upper elementary children in a loving Christian environment. This takes at least six volunteers each Sunday, who serve on a rotating basis. Interested in building into the lives of children? Contact Rachael at rdunlap@berkleyfirst.org
  • Hospitality / Coffee Setup – Good coffee matters. That’s why each week, we brew Great Lakes Coffee in our downstairs kitchen, stock the mini-fridge with pop and water, and cut up bread for communion. Interested in sharing the love of God through food and drink? Contact LaSonya at lbuckines@berkleyfirst.org
  • Ushers and Greeters – A friendly smile and a warm handshake go a long way in helping people feel at home. Our usher team greets people, directs them to the coffee bar and children’s ministry, collects the offering, and passes out brochures. Interested in greeting and ushering? Contact Len at usher@berkleyfirst.org
  • Music and Technology – Whether it’s up front with a guitar and microphone, or in the balcony tech booth running lights, slides, video, and sound, we are always looking for more volunteers to help facilitate excellent worship experiences. Interested in serving with the worship team? Contact Chris at cfreeman@berkleyfirst.org
Special Events and Projects

Rather than being part of a regular team or ministry area, perhaps you would like to help with special events and projects from time to time. We have needs and opportunities to serve occasionally with everything from landscaping to set design to event hosting. If you would like us to keep in touch with you about serving with special events and occasional projects, contact Katie at kkirkpatrick@berkleyfirst.org
